## How ONA.UNO uses AI When items arrive in your timeline, ONA.UNO reads them and automatically generates titles, tags, and concise summaries for each one. It also creates embeddings — mathematical representations of meaning — that power semantic search across your entire collection. All of this happens in the background, without you having to do anything. The result: you can scan hundreds of items by their AI-generated titles and tags, search by meaning rather than exact keywords, and get day-by-day summaries that synthesize everything that came in. ## Two ways to run ONA.UNO offers two operation modes, and you can switch between them at any time: **Online mode** runs the entire AI pipeline through cloud providers via OpenRouter. This gives you the highest quality across all features — summaries, tags, titles, embeddings, and chat. **Mixed mode** runs most of the pipeline locally on your Mac (titles, tags, embeddings, micro summaries) and only uses cloud AI for chat and deep summaries. This is a good choice if you prefer to minimize cloud usage or want faster processing for everyday items. You see exactly what you spend in your OpenRouter dashboard, and you can set spending limits there if you want to. ONA.UNO does not add any surcharge or markup on top of what OpenRouter charges. ## What counts as an Advanced AI action Most of what ONA.UNO does with AI runs freely on both plans. The features that count toward your Advanced AI action quota are the ones where you actively ask ONA.UNO to work with your content in depth: - **Chat with your notes** — each successful prompt and response counts as one action - **Day and daypart summaries** — generating a summary for a day or time period - **Full item summaries** — generating or regenerating a detailed summary of a specific item Everything else is free and unlimited on both plans: AI titles, AI tags, micro summaries, embeddings, semantic search, Chat with Knowledgebase, and viewing cached results. Failed or cancelled runs are never counted. On Free, you get 200 Advanced AI actions in your first month, then 10 per month. On Pro, there is no counter. The licensing service tracks only your license status and action quota — it has no access to your notes, chat history, or any generated content.
